The Association

The Associazione Italiana Progeria Sammy Basso APS Onlus (Italian Progeria Association) was set up in 2005. Since its foundation, it has been involved in promoting the study of progeria, from its scientific aspects to the more human aspects linked to patients' everyday life experience. In particular, it raises funds for research; it mediates correct scientific information for specialists, universities, schools and the general public; it encourages scientific collaboration between researchers, doctors and specialists from different teams and different countries in the world; it supports families with progeria in choosing the path to follow and facing daily challenges; it is a reliable and high-level interlocutor that Italian, European and foreign institutions can turn to.

The symbol of the association is the salamander. Quite simply, it was Sammy's first pet, to which he was very attached. The salamander, however, is also a symbol of versatility: this animal, in fact, besides being amphibious, and therefore living on land as well as on water, according to medieval legends, also lived in chimney fires. It is therefore a symbol of adaptation: raising funds with all kinds of events, collaborating with any team that makes itself available, doing research in any situation, anytime, until a cure is found.

The sinuosity of the salamander's curves is recalled by the font of the association's name, also the result of long study.

The colour chosen is a sea green, the colour of research!
